WEEK 1 - 12.09.2017
● My honours year project & week 0 ideas
It is my fourth and final year in Digital Interaction Design in Duncan and Jordanston College of Art during which I have to make my honours project. This project will have to link the notions of "People", "Technology" and "Design".
This week I've start thinking I really want to solve an issue I am personally facing in my everyday life. My first thought was to do something for foreign students, as I am one myself. Being in a different country to study is really cool but also brings a lot of small daily life issues like products you're used to and that you cannot find the country you're currently staying in, communication problems, or just admission stuff for example...
Also I know I want to make a website or an app because it is what I like to do and hope to find a job related to making or designing them in the future.
● Nowot's project
I already did an app project last year, for the module Social Mobile Apps, and I really enjoyed doing it. The module's goal was to create an augmented reality experience. I created and designed NOWOT (stands for NO Waste Of Time), an app for people using
laundromats and that are annoyed with going all the way there with their laundry when there are no available machines. NOWOT offers the possibility for people in the laundromat to update the machines status live to "available", "in use" or "out of order", in order for the people who wants to make their laundry to check the status before they go to the laundromat themselves. That was the project outline but the app I made was not coded with a database so wasn't actually working in real life. For this year I really want to challenge myself to make my app work, if I'm making one, and to test it in real life.
● 12.09.2017 : Sportive Chance talk & fresher's fayre preparation
Two people from the Sportive Chance program came to talk to us to help us with a brief making process but also to encourage anyone with a sports related project to enter the competition they are organizing. The talk really inspired me and I now want to make my project about handball, a sport I've been playing for more than 7 years and that I continue playing here in Dundee with the university team. I am now part of the team committee (as social secretary) and help organized this week our fresher's fayre stall so we can promote our sports to new students. I also made a poster and small business cards to promote the team on the campus.
